At Chickidee, we believe home fragrance is the invisible layer of interior design. While candles bring the drama of a flickering flame, Reed Diffusers are the unsung heroes—providing a consistent, 24/7 scent without any maintenance.

Whether you’ve just picked up one of our Neutral Core glass bottles or a stunning Clay vessel, this guide will ensure you get the most "scent for your cent."

1. Setting the Scene: The First Setup

Unboxing your new diffuser is exciting, but don't just "plug and play." Follow these steps for an immediate scent payoff:

  • The Uncap: Unscrew the decorative collar and carefully remove the travel plug. Replace the collar—it’s designed to keep your reeds upright and elegant.
  • The Initial Soak: Place all your reeds into the bottle and let them sit for about an hour.
  • The First Flip: After an hour, flip the reeds over so the "dry" ends are in the oil and the "wet" ends are exposed. This jumpstarts the evaporation process.

2. Location, Location, Location

Where you place your diffuser is just as important as the scent itself. To maximize the "scent throw," keep these rules in mind:

The Airflow Rule: Place your diffuser in high-traffic areas like hallways, entryways, or near the door of a room. The natural movement of people walking by creates air currents that help carry the fragrance further.

  • Avoid Heat: Keep your diffuser away from radiators and direct sunlight. Excessive heat causes the oil to evaporate far too quickly, shortening the life of your product.
  • Height Matters: Aim for waist-to-shoulder height. If it’s too high, the scent rises to the ceiling; too low, and you won't catch the breeze.

3. Customise Your Intensity

You have total control over how strong your home smells. You don’t always need to use all the reeds provided!

  • For Small Spaces (Bathrooms/Studies): Use 3–4 reeds for a subtle, delicate aroma. We recommend our Sage & Sea Salt for a crisp, spa-like feel.
  • For Large Spaces (Open Plan Living): Use the full set of reeds to ensure the fragrance can compete with the larger air volume. Try Amber Fire for a rich, room-filling warmth.

4. Maintenance: The "Weekly Refresh"

To keep the scent fresh, we recommend flipping your reeds once a week. This brings a fresh dose of fragrance oil to the surface.

Pro Tip: Always flip your reeds over a sink or a coaster. Essential oils can damage polished wood or delicate fabrics if they drip!

How long will my Chickidee diffuser last?

Our 200ml diffusers are designed to last between 3 to 4 months. This varies based on the humidity and temperature of your home.

What should I do with the bottle when it's empty?

Don't throw it away! Our Clay and Neutral Core bottles are designed to be repurposed. Once empty, wash with warm soapy water and use them as a chic bud vase for dried flowers or a stylish reed refill vessel.
